May the Trip Begin!

Today is departure day!!  This trip has felt like such a process to get to.  We originally booked this trip in December of LAST YEAR!!  A full twelve months ago, we found this Europe River Cruise that focused on the Christmas Markets, and you know what? It was definitely an itinerary for me.  Since it also corresponds with my 40th birthday, Bill was kind of forced to just go along with me.

So, after a year of planning, we're finally here. I'll save the details of what we're doing for later, but for now, let's delve into some of the prep work.  Leading up to the trip, I had several people who told me I NEEDED to get a dedicated camera for the photo glamour.  Now, I don't pretend to be a photographer, but by golly...it sounded fun.  Plus, who doesn't enjoy shopping and spending WAY more money than I should, in order to snap photos that I could likely take from my phone?  The iPhone is, after all, a pretty good camera these days.

So, I dutifully bought a camera.  And lenses.  And a bag to carry them all in.  And a wrist strap.  AND microfiber cloths to clean/store the spare lenses.  Yeesh.  I'm sure our mail delivery person thought I was buying ALL of Amazon.

Yesterday we were blessed with an extremely INTENSE rainbow, that seemed to hang on forever.  Long enough that I actually went and got my camera, changed out the lens, and snapped a few photos to get some experience.  See below.  Can't you tell I'm a super star?

So, there you have it.  My first blog post, about photos.  As I write this, we are sitting in the Big Spender United Polaris Lounge.  Bill has started the trip with a Long Island Iced Tea, Mom had some hibiscus water with a Coca-Cola chaser.  I've opened a Coke, but haven't touched it much, as I was trying to figure out how to transfer photos from the camera to the laptop.  Next up, our 11 ish hour flight from LAX to London.

More to follow.
